2 Piece Tailored Garment
During this project I learnt advanced technical sewing and pattern making skills that pushed me way out of my comfort zone. I learnt how to make a tailored jacket sample first, and then transferred those skills into my own design. I learnt how to sew jetted pockets, lapels, collars, back vent, semi working sleeve vent and lining. The most difficult part was sewing the invisible seam pockets, and the most rewarding part was sewing the lining and back hole facings. Consisting of 34 patten pieces all together, this is my biggest fashion project yet. I also wove my own fabric for the pockets on the 8 shaft loom, using hopsack lifting plan.
Materials: Wool blankets (Jeanine Clarkin), Silk Tablecloth (Second Hand) Fusing and Acrylic Yarn (Massey).

Drag Garment for Stage
Inspired by Te Papa Garment the Bustle Dress, this project had me reimagining historical into the contemporary. Working with non stretch fabric, I started through making bodice samples. I tried out drape for the first time and learnt how to transfer it to flat pattern. The most difficult part was grasping the intricacies of the pattern making process, the most rewarding was the styling and photoshoot. What I learnt the most in this project was how different fabric weights react and behave, and this is something I aim to improve on in my material choice.
Materials: Cotton (Spotlight), Cotton Voile (Drapers Fabrics), Curtain Material (Second Hand)

Screen Printed Skirt

Screen Printed Skirt
This skirt is a result of my first pattern making class. I went from having zero experience pattern making to suddenly being able to manipulate and change blocks to suit my design. Here I learnt all the fundamental basics and rules. I choose to create a panelled skirt with godets, and sew it up with stretch fabric. I also screen printed the godets with a water drop design I had made for my screen printing class.
