Woven Textiles in the Dark (Phosphorescent Yarn)

Woven Textile Collection
In my Advanced Textile Structures class I was introduced to weaving on the loom. I really enjoyed weaving as the opportunities are endless. I decided to take an experimental approach to my materials and techniques. I used reflective yarn, phosphorescent yarn, laser cut acrylic beads, fairy lights, wool and merino. I experimented with combining all these materials to see what different effects I could get. The hardest part of the class was learning how to set up the looms, and getting started with weaving as it was new to me. The best part was gaining confidence. As well as combining the phosphorescent yarn with the fairy lights, and the effect of when the lights are turned off in the dark.
Screen Print and Dye Collection

Screen Print and Dye Collection
For my Screen Printing class I developed motifs based on water droplets on leaves. From then I created repeat patterns on photoshop and exposed it onto my screens. I mixed together my transparent pastes into certain colours and dyed my fabrics too. I also did polychromatic prints. I enjoyed most learning how to calculate and mix colours for dyeing.
